Last Minute Announcements!!!

  • Since the first hour of the competition is being taken up with fewest moves and big cubes BLD, we do not require that you register by 9:30. If you are doing fewest moves or big cubes BLD, then obviously you should be registered by 9:30. Otherwise, you may show up as late as 10:15 if you like, so you can be registered and ready to go by 10:30. The registration table will be open until 10:30.
  • Fewest moves and big cubes BLD will be going on in the competition room from 9:30 to 10:30, so out of respect for the competitors, please keep noise to a minimum in the room until fewest moves is complete. You can always go outside the room to talk. Also, we have a very limited number of tables, so most of the spectator tables will be in use until 10:30 for the fewest moves event. Please do not sit at the tables that have been reserved for fewest moves until that event is complete. If you do, we will have to ask you to move.
  • We will have pizza available for competitors and spectators - please sign up for it at the registration table when you arrive if you would like pizza. We need everyone who wants pizza to register, to make sure we have enough. It will be $5 per person for pizza and drink; you will need a ticket to get lunch.
  • This competition has a large number of competitors and an ambitious schedule. I believe it is tied for the most events ever held in a single-day competition in the United States (with the Washington DC Open 2008). As a result, we will need to work hard to keep it moving. Please be aware that if we get ahead of schedule, we reserve the right to start events early, so please be ready for the next event if you intend to compete in it. We will try to start events in order according to the schedule, but it is possible we may get ahead in main events versus side events or vice versa.

Registration

Registration is done online. Register here. Registration will close 12:00 AM, Feb. 25, 2010 (EST). After that, you may be limited to the number of events you can register for.

Fees

The cost is $5 for the first event, plus $1 for each additional event. $1 of each competitor's fee will go to the WCA for administrative expenses. The rest of the fee will go towards the cost of running the competition, prizes, etc. Any funds beyond that go towards future competitions.

FAQs

  • I've never competed before. Is there anything I should know?
It would be a good idea to look over the regulations, especially Article A. You can also check out this competitors tutorial.
  • How fast do I need to be, or how do my times compare?
Under 10 minutes for most events. Depending on numbers and the event, as long as you are under 10:00 you will be able to complete an average of 5. To see how you stack up, you can check out results from nearby competitions.
  • Do I need to register if I'm just going to watch?
No. You are more than welcome to just watch. There is no entrance fee, so come enjoy.
  • Do I get to use my own cube?
Yes, you should provide your own cube (or borrow one). Make sure it is legal!
  • What about 5x5x5?
I love 5x5x5 as much as anyone. But 5x5x5 takes up so much time, and we decided we could do more unusual events if we left 5x5x5 out. So we’re leaving 5x5x5 out of this particular competition. There’s a competition in Chicago 3 weeks earlier that’s holding 5x5x5 – if you really need to do 5x5x5, please go to the Chicago competition. I’ll be there; I hope to see you there!
  • Can I do 4x4x4 BLD and 5x5x5 BLD and also do fewest moves?
You have until 12:30 PM to do all of your 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 BLD solves, with no exceptions. (You may finish any solve you start before 12:30 PM., regardless of how long it takes.) Scramblers will provide scrambles for 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 BLD as they are available, but during the 3x3x3 round, 3x3x3 will take priority. So if you want to be sure you can get your scrambles quickly enough for 4x4x4 BLD and 5x5x5 BLD, it’s probably best to skip fewest moves and do your solves then. On the other hand, if you’re only planning to do one or two big cube BLD solves, it may be fine to do fewest moves first.
